Anyone who’s visited Los Angeles knows it’s jam-packed with fascinating characters and some of the most notorious traffic in the country. And what’s an ordinary driver like you and me to do while stuck in grueling bumper-to-bumper congestion? Take in the spectacle of iconic cars and the captivating individuals driving them, of course. In a city where grabbing attention is a way of life, it’s no surprise that many Angelenos turn their vehicles into their very own mobile billboards. And this group is at the top of its game when it comes to turning heads on the street and cruising the city in some of the most iconic cars of LA.

Angelyne, the infamous 80’s billboard queen.

Angelyne, the iconic LA personality, is synonymous with glitz, glamour, and, of course, her infamous pink cars. Since the 1980s, this bold figure has captivated on-lookers with her striking fashion and confident attitude. Angelyne first began to spark attention in the ’80s with her eye-catching billboards, transforming the LA skyline into a canvas for her larger-than-life persona. But these bright pink vehicles aren’t just typical modes of transportation—they’re her mobile trademark. Each of her cars, from the Corvette to the convertible, is as much a part of her legend as her iconic billboards. You may recognize her story from the recent 2022 mini-film series Angelyne which stirred up some buzz, bringing her back toward the limelight. She’s made quite a name for herself, and spotting her around town can be quite an exciting event. She truly is nothing short of a legendary Los Angeles Icon.

Dennis Woodruff is certainly a noteworthy figure in the local Los Angeles scene due to his extreme and unconventional approach to self-promotion. Woodruff has transformed his cars into bold moving resumes, showcasing what he’s all about and why you’d be crazy not to hire him! Struggling to land some real industry work, Dennis is eager to be taken seriously in the film industry. He claims to be a famous actor, director, and filmmaker who has produced more movies than the top Hollywood names. He also sells his low-budget films from the trunk of his iconic cars. Like somewhat of an offbeat scavenger hunt, getting a glimpse of Woodruff is a real treat. You never know, you could be sighting the next big name in Hollywood.

JoJo Siwa really knows how to turn heads.

A spectacle, to say the least, former Dance Moms star, musician, and social media sensation Jojo Siwa can be spotted around town sporting a vehicle wrapped solely in images of her likeness. And yes, she actually drives it! Jojo is known for being a big ball of sparkle and glitz but is now embracing a bold new image with her recent transformation into a self-proclaimed bad girl. She’s leaving no stone unturned to ensure her new brand is a direct reflection of her evolving identity. Her face-covered ride is just one of many ways she’s making sure everyone notices. After all, she IS the first of her generation to make this extreme of a switch...or so she says.

Peggy Noland’s fur on four wheels.

Artist and fashion designer Peggy Noland is the queen of texture when it comes to her show-stopping art pieces. Since relocating to Los Angeles, Noland has pushed the boundaries of traditional displays of art. Instead of requiring visitors to enter her studio or shop, she brought her vibrant installations to the streets, particularly along the busy Sunset Boulevard. Though these immersive shops are no longer around, Peggy has found other ways to create larger-than-life art displays.

In 2019, Noland took her innovative approach further by turning ordinary cars into stunning art pieces. Once mundane vehicles underwent dramatic transformations to often match- the lively personalities of their owners. Through her YouTube series, “Peggy’s Cartoon-Up,” she showcased these metamorphoses, expanding the reach of her art and providing a visual feat on wheels for her audience. We haven’t heard much buzz about Peggy in recent years, but who knows, you just may find yourself driving alongside a fuzzy Ferrarri one of these days.

So what do you think? Would you drive one of these wild and crazy cars around town? If so, what’s holding you back?

Are You Using Your Green Trash Bin? Who’s Actually Following LA’s Composting Law?

We know we’ve got nothing but law-abiding citizens reading the JohnHart blog… riiiight? Well, what about the laws you don’t know about? Now, before you get defensive, hear us out: who here actually knows (and follows) LA’s composting law? You know, the reason you have that green trash bin? It’s not just for yard waste if that’s what you’re thinking. As of 2023, Angelenos have been required by law to compost their “green waste”; basically food scraps, yard waste, and the like. Just to clarify, this law applies to the city of Los Angeles. Other municipalities (and the state as a whole) have their own composting laws. In fact, California was the second state (after Vermont) to pass such a law. Now, let’s take a closer look at the city of LA’s green waste law if, for no other reason, than it could save you from a hefty fine!  Ever Heard of Organics LA? Perhaps Organics LA could use a marketing push. That’s the name of a program meant to prioritize the collection of the

The Rancho Palos Verdes Landslides Are a Horror 250,000 Years in the Making

Featured image credit: Dave Proffer We’ve all heard horror stories of homeownership woe. A flooding upstairs bathroom crashing down into a home’s lower level. The spark of electrical wiring burning down a dream. Unseen black mold contaminating everything it touches. But you’ve heard of nothing quite like what’s happening right now in the coastal community of Rancho Palos Verdes. Once a bastion of multi-million dollar seaside properties, heightened landslide activity means Rancho Palos Verdes is threatening to slide away. Southern California Edison (SCE) is cutting power… in some cases, indefinitely. Los Angeles is throwing money at the problem. And Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency. As residents continue to dig in and fight for their beachfront homes, the awkward question remains: when do we declare Rancho Palos Verdes uninhabitable?  Not Exactly a Recent Problem Photo credit: Lizzie McVeigh The volatility of Rancho Palos Verdes’s land isn’t a su

Exploring the Steel Sentinels of Galleta Meadows

Featured image credit: Matthew Dillon Just two hours south of Palm Springs, you’ll find a desert preserve where history loses all meaning while resonating with unusual profundity. Grizzled prospectors eternally sift through the running waters of imagined streams, prehistoric sloths lumber across arid sands, and mythical serpents swim beneath rivers of asphalt. If it sounds like magic, it may be. But it’s a magic you can touch, forged from hot metal saturated with a color at once rusty and romantic. It’s a sprawling desert wonderland known as Galleta Meadows, bringing additional life to Anza Borrego State Park. Defying reason and reality itself, it still most certainly exists.  Dennis Avery’s Dream for Anza Borrego State Park Photo credit: GB11111 The late Dennis Avery, former heir to the Avery Labels fortune, harbored a creativity that betrayed his office supply foundation. He owned a series of consecutive plots of land near Borrego Springs, a tiny village
